How Does BDSM Benefit Health?

TW: This post contains details relating to sex.

AD- While there are many forms of sexual experiences, it has often been thought of that those who practised BDSM were sick and needed therapeutic help. More recent research and studies have found that this is indeed not true, and there may even be some benefits to this lifestyle.

If 50 Shades of Grey introduced you to BDSM, you are not the only one. Since the release of the book, interest in this lifestyle and preference has increased substantially!

If you don`t know what BDSM is, I`m here to tell you.

BDSM stands for : bondage, discipline, sadism, and masochism.

Bondage is sexual practises that involve tying up a partner.

Discipline is when the Dom (dominant) sets the rules that the Sub (submissive) is expected to obey. Should the sub stray from the rules, there usually is a punishment.

Sadism is the process of inflicting physical pain on another person, or restricting the freedom of them for their own pleasure.

Masochism is the enjoyment of physical or emotional pain and humiliation.

How does BDSM affect you?

Well, of course everyone is different right? While this may not be one persons` cup of tea, it may be someone elses` escape from their reality. Whoever your bdsm contacts are though, you must ensure there is an established level of trust. You need to feel safe.

Interestingly so, a recent study has shown that bdsm practitioners had lower levels of depression, anxiety, ptsd, psychological sadism, psychological masochism , borderline pathology and paranoia in comparison to the norm.

Another study found that those who engage in bdsm lifestyle are generally less neurotic, less sensitive to rejection, and had higher subjective well-being.

So, while it is definitely not for everyone, it is no longer looked at as a psychotic disorder, but rather a lifestyle and personal preference.

It is thought that there may actually be some benefits to practising bdsm.

Couples who engaged in this type of sexual behaviour tend to have much better communication between each other. Being able to use their safe words, and have that unbreakable trust to be safe and respected can be very beneficial in a relationship.

Bdsm can also reduce levels of stress, along with increase intimacy between couples, which can promote happy, and healthy relationships. It can also ease any stresses and anxieties and as studies suggest, lead to better mental health. If you are curious, or wanting to experiment, do your research and visit mybdsmhookups.com.

Are you wondering what about this is sexually pleasing?

For many, it`s simply playing with control. Being in control, or out of control. For others, its about surrendering. Surrendering to another person may feel freeing. It could also be about fantasy-play, or even trust.

It`s hard to know for sure how many people enjoy this lifestyle, because it`s suspected that many are not completely honest in surveys.

But, it can be said that 50 Shades of Grey definitely brought it into the spotlight and has become a part of it being more widely accepted.

Always ensure you are comfortable and feel safe if this is something you practise, and have and use safe words when needed.

So, while bdsm may not be for everyone, it can be said that there are quite a few benefits to practising it.

Be safe.
