AD- I was/am so blessed to be able to work with Creative District Shop in anticipation of my own wedding. I received a bridal hair piece as a gift for my wedding and I am so excited to be partnered with such a wonderful small biz!!

Please enjoy this wonderful interview piece with the lovely Summer from Creative District Shop.

Introduce yourself!

My name is Summer and I live in Toronto, Canada. Since I was a kid, I’ve always loved jewelry and design. During university, I ventured into architecture and then into landscape architecture. I love both, landscape design and jewelry, so currently I am doing both.
I work as a landscape designer currently as it is my main income source, and I take care of bridal hair accessories by night.

Tell me about your small biz.

We sell bridal hair accessories that are classy, simple, and can work on many hairstyles. We can also custom make or add to some of our existing items whenever the time permits! So send us your requests early!

Where does the name of your shop come from? What does it mean to you?

Oh it took me a looong time to find a business name that I liked! I’m quite picky, and I know that this name will stick with me for a very long time, so I wanted to choose something that resonated with me.
I liked creative district because I want what I do to be creative – as in the name – and edgy. I aim for my products to be flexible, usable in different ways, and suit today’s bride. I’m always reading and seeing what brides are currently into, so I can portray that in my products. And since every bride is different, I can also make custom orders or additions/changes to my showcased products when the timing of the bride’s wedding
permits. So brides, contact me in advance about any ideas or thoughts you may have so we can make it happen!

How long have you had your small biz?

Officially, November 2019, but you’ll find out about how it all came about in my next response 🙂

How did you get started? Have you been doing it long?

I opened my Etsy shop back in 2016, selling custom made leather jewelry. That eventually slowed down as I had other personal commitments that took more of my time. Then, when I got engaged, and started looking for bridal items for my wedding, everything .. and I mean everything was just overpriced. I know all of you reading this understand what I’m talking about! It took lots of searching to find good quality items that were of a decent price, and eventually, I took some things into my own hands, and
this led me to making my own hair accessory and veil for my wedding.

Side note:  My seamstress friend helped me with the veil, and my mom and I sewed the flowers for my veil. It was really fun and personal to make, and it means a lot to me whenever I see the pictures. It was also much more affordable in the end! And it meant so much more than paying so
much for them, just because they are termed ‘bridal’.
So, this was the beginning of my small business journey. I want to help other brides find beautiful, good quality hair accessories that won’t cost an arm and a leg. Save the rest for your honeymoon or a nice dinner with your partner! I got married in September 2019, and in November, I started to take my business in a serious note.

What are your social links so we can follow you?

My Instagram is: creativedistrictshop – It’s a new page so your follow as well as any comments are greatly appreciated!
My Facebook is also creative district shop
And my etsy shop is this link!

What is the best part about being a small biz owner?

I love it because I get a lot of one on one interaction with my customers. They can get in touch with me easily, and I learn what each client likes and dislikes, and that helps me understand my customers more, as well as what products I should provide more of.  I have an open mind, and everyone’s taste is different, so something that you like, might not work for someone else and vice versa. However, this is the beauty of my work, and
this is what makes every bride unique!

What is the last movie you watched?

I think the last movie I watched in the theatres was Aladdin! I LOVE it. I’m obsessed with the characters, their acting, and the cinematography was just great. Currently I’ve been watching Money Heist on Netflix and it’s pretty addictive.

What are you reading?

I am currently reading the 40 rules of love. This book is not about love between 2 partners, but about love of life, and experience and being grateful and appreciating the life you’re living, and trusting the process, no matter where you’re at. It’s a good reminder for when the going gets tough, as everyone goes through ups and downs and that’s normal.

  1. These pieces are absolutely gorgeous! The last one is my favorite though – I can’t wait to get married and find all the perfect pieces. Need my boyfriend to hurry up and propose haha! Great post, really nice to get to know Summer as well – thanks for sharing!

  2. Hairpieces are such a fun way to add that personal touch on your big day. I know that I ordered a custom piece when I got married. In my case, my style is a little different from what you traditionally see in the bridal shops – it has a large red and black rose with red and black feathers and black netting, accented with some Swarovski crystals. I got SOO many compliments for it. Worth every penny!

  3. Thank you everyone for your sweet comments! I should also point out that you can totally wear some of these for your relatives or friends weddings! especially the smaller/simpler items as you don’t want to overdo the bride!
    Best, xoxo

  4. Beautiful pieces! I absolutely love the last one! I had one similar to the last one but smaller for my wedding, I think these make just the right statement!

  5. Oh, how gorgeous do those hair accessories look? Perfect that they are handmade as well. I am nowhere near getting married, but I would love to wear something like this if I do one day.
    Thanks for sharing!

  6. These are gorgeous! I’m not getting married but if I ever was I’d love to wear any one of these in my hair.
    Thank you for sharing pet.

  7. These look fantastic. I’ve told my fiance about them as we are currently planning our wedding for next year due to the lockdown. But for me I’m banned from her accessories etc.. Only thing I’m allowed is venue and colour scheme ?. Thank you for sharing this post.
