Self-Care Ideas For A Friday Night

We made it! Maybe some of us just barely, but we DID make it! Here is a reminder to practice some self-care! In hopes of trying to become a more positive person and changing my negative mindset, I am celebrating the victory of making it through another week. (You can read more about my goals over here.) Give yourself a hug! Take some time for some self-love and some self-care. Take a few minutes to listen to what your body and mind are telling you, and nourish your soul. Today I’m diving into some of the easiest ideas for a cozy Friday night in.

What exactly is self-care?

Self-care is a broad term that refers to any deliberate action taken to improve one’s physical, emotional, and mental health. Self-care encompasses a wide range of activities, from taking a relaxing bath, practicing mindfulness meditation, getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, and eating a balanced diet. It sounds like a lot, doesn’t it? That’s part of why I love using checklists. I feel so accomplished

(Linking one I love in case you want to try it out too!)

Self-care is necessary because it helps individuals maintain their overall well-being and promotes optimal functioning. When we care for ourselves, we are better equipped to manage stress, cope with challenges, and engage in meaningful relationships and activities. Self-care can also help prevent burnout, reduce the risk of physical and mental health problems, and improve our overall quality of life.

Self-care is especially important in today’s fast-paced and stressful world, where many individuals prioritize their work, responsibilities, and obligations over their needs and well-being. By making self-care a priority, individuals can improve their resilience, creativity, and productivity and develop a sense of self-worth and self-esteem.

In summary, self-care is necessary because it promotes well-being, helps manage stress, and improves our overall quality of life. It is essential to taking care of oneself and should be a regular part of our daily routines.

Enough about what self-care is – let’s get into some self-care ideas for a Friday night at home.

I sometimes find reflecting on my week helps to keep things in perspective. (I usually do this by journaling. I’m a big fan of daily journaling.

It helps me to understand my emotions and what caused them. And maybe I still don`t understand why my emotions happened (most likely the case), but it can help me be at peace with everything I feel or have felt.

Benefits of journaling:

Journaling can have numerous benefits for one’s mental, emotional, and even physical health. Here are some potential benefits of journaling:

  1. Reduces stress and anxiety: Journaling can help individuals process and manage difficult emotions, reducing stress and anxiety.

  2. Enhances self-awareness: By writing down their thoughts and feelings, individuals can better understand themselves and their behaviors.

  3. Improves creativity: Journaling can help individuals tap into their creativity and develop new ideas.

  4. Boosts mood: Writing about positive experiences and gratitude can improve mood and overall well-being.

Read

I absolutely LOVE to read, and I always have difficulty deciding. Do I read, or do I write? Right now, I am reading one from Nicholas Sparks! Reading is such a nice way to unwind and give our minds a break. Reading is known to reduce stress and improve your memory. Reading is so fantastic and important. Below is a small list of the benefits of reading:

  1. Improves cognitive function: Reading can enhance cognitive function, including improved vocabulary, language skills, and memory.

  2. Reduces stress: Reading can help individuals escape from stress and relax, reducing stress levels.

  3. Boosts empathy: Reading about characters and their experiences can increase empathy and understanding of others.

Write

I have been working hard preparing for Blogtober and writing like CRAZY! I am feeling great, though, and my anxiety has been virtually nil! Writing is how I cope with my mental illness and work through the demons that haunt me. I enjoy writing blog posts and poetry. Here are some of my favorite notebooks!

Playing NHL Hockey on PS4. My husband and I LOVE playing hockey! It is just something we enjoy doing together as a couple. We even play on the same team, which definitely took some practice learning how to work together! This is a great Friday night routine idea that I always look forward to!

Visit Family

With the weeks being so busy and so much go go go, often on a Friday evening, we go over to my family’s house for tea! It is so nice being with family and hearing how everyone’s week was and how everyone is doing. It`s a nice way to unwind and connect with them.

NETFLIX. My night will always end with Netflix! What would we do without it? What did I do without it? Haha! Right now, my favorite show is Grace and Frankie, and if you like funny sitcoms, I highly recommend this one!

Nothing

Isn’t it nice to have that deep breath and relax when the day is finally over? Be present in the moment and be proud that you made it through another week and you are doing great!

In a world that values productivity, achievement, and busyness, it can be easy to overlook the value of doing nothing. However, taking time to do nothing can benefit one’s mental, emotional, and physical health. Here are some potential benefits of doing nothing:

  1. Reduces stress: Taking a break from activities and obligations can help reduce stress levels and promote relaxation.

  2. Improves creativity: Doing nothing can provide space for creative thinking and generate new ideas.

  3. Enhances self-awareness: Taking time to reflect and be alone can promote self-awareness and a deeper understanding of oneself.

  4. Boosts productivity: Taking breaks and doing nothing can actually enhance productivity by providing time for rest and recharge.

  5. Promotes mindfulness: Doing nothing can provide an opportunity to be present and mindful, improving overall well-being.

  6. Encourages self-care: Taking time for oneself, even if it means doing nothing, can be an act of self-care and self-compassion.

  7. Enhances problem-solving: Stepping back from a problem and doing nothing can provide new perspectives and insights, enhancing problem-solving abilities.

These are some of my favorite Friday night activities at home. Gone are the days of big plans and fancy dresses, that’s for sure! I think there is a lot of good that comes from relaxing, unwinding, and having a quieter evening, even if you are someone who does enjoy a more exciting lifestyle.
