We’ve all heard the word hashtag, and even probably know what is is.

But, do you know how to use hashtags to increase your following and blog traffic? The hashtag is simply a number sign, and it’s a type of metatag used on social networks. It connects together and makes it easier to, as I say, “find your people”.

What do I mean when I say “find your people”?

Hashtags help to almost put “cliques” together and make it easy to share and find relevant content. For example, I’m a mom and I often write about my bipolar disorder, so a few examples of hashtags I use are #momlife, #momswithbipolardisorder. Using these hashtags I’ll likely find other content that is similar and for someone searching for relevant content, they’d be able to find mine. Using hashtags in a personal and relevant way will help you find your people.

Use hashtags that fit your brand.

When possible keep them short, and simple to remember. Hashtags can definitely open up the doors to more followers and traffic.

You can use hashtags pretty much anywhere and the purpose remains the same. It’s how you find your people. Your people are the ones that interact and support you. You need to find your people on all platforms.
