I recently connected with Ashley again, through Twitter! (My favourite platform for blogging!!) I felt that she was incredible right away and completely LOVED her vibe!
I wanted you guys to get to know her a bit, so I`ve asked her some questions!
1. So excited you`re here!!! Can you tell us a little bit about you?
Hi, I’m Ashley from Stumbling Through Wonderland! I’m in my 30s and live on the East Coast of Virginia where the weather has no idea what it’s supposed to be doing. I’ve grown up as a beach bum but feel a calling to the mountains in the west and cooler weather. I live with Ethan (my son), Ryan (my significant other) and Bentley (our corgi). There’s a lot of testosterone around here and pee everywhere.
2. How old is your blog/business and how did it come to be?
My blog is only about 3 months old. In May I quit a very toxic but comfortable job of 10+ years and my health (mental and physical) has improved tremendously since leaving. After being home for 2 months with my son I knew I couldn’t go back to a standard 9-5 job and be happy. I wanted to be home with my son and actually get to spend time with him and watch him grow up. I want to be a PTA parent and go on school field trips. I had been thinking about starting a blog for awhile now but was uncertain of how to start a legit blog and if I could make enough to support us. In August I took the leap of faith and started Stumbling Through Wonderland!
3. How do you find it is managing life AND entrepreneurship/writing? Any tips?
Starting a blog is very time consuming. Also trying to get holiday ready while still ‘starting’ is honestly exhausting. I feel like I’m doing double the work currently but I know it will be worth it in the end. I do try to get the bulk of my work done during the standard 9-5 while my son is in daycare but it is honestly a 24/7 job running a blog with social media accounts. Saturdays are specifically for family time though. My tip or advice would be to not start a blog close to the holidays and to plan out your approach. Don’t try to do too much all at once. There is ALWAYS more to learn in this industry. Don’t stress about it.
4. Have you always enjoyed writing, or is it a newer hobby?
I’ve always enjoyed keeping a journal of sorts but never writing for others to read. I always have been and still am very self conscious about my writing.
5. What does the future look like for your blog/business?
It still scares me to think about the future of my blog because so much is still unknown. My immediate plans are to continue to post new content and grow my blog. This blog is going to be my sole source of income and I would LOVE to be bringing in enough to live comfortably by this time next year.
6. Where does the name of your blog/business come from?
Stumbling Through Wonderland. I honestly had a hard time finding a name that I loved and one that I thought would keep meaning as the years go on. I knew I wanted something to do with Alice in Wonderland from the start. Since I was a child I have been obsessed with the book and grew up watching the Disney animated movie. I collect different editions of the books and different knick knacks. The ‘stumbling’ portion is a reference to my actual clumsiness and how I get through life. I’ve stumbled through many portions of my life and I’m sure that will continue.
7. Can you give one piece of blogging/writing advice before you go?
Start! Don’t keep making excuses or giving reasons why you can’t. It doesn’t have to be perfect before you can publish your blog. As you grow your blog and style will grow with you.
