One of my most favourite bloggers! I have followed Nicole since as long as I remember and LOVE her!
I am so excited to have her here on Thoughts with N!!!
I asked Nicole a few questions so we could get to know her a little better.
1. SO excited you`re here!!! Can you tell us a little bit about you?
Well, I’m 43 and married 13 years. We have a 20-year-old son (his), 19-year-old son (mine), 4-year-old son (ours), and a 2.8-year-old girl (ours). We live in a very rural area (there is a farm right across the road) on 40 acres and have our own part-time auto repair shop in our backyard. I am a SAH homeschooling mom to the two little ones, run the auto repair business (hubs is the mechanic), and try to keep my blog going. I love to read, crochet, color, and hope to get back to scrapbooking when the kids are a little older and not into everything.
2. How old is your blog, and how did it come to be?
My blog is just over a year old (July 4). I started it after having an “ah-ha” moment while driving home. The story is on my blog, but basically I have these moments when I take time to reflect and it usually leads to learning for me. (Read it over here )I was driving home one day and feeling so run down. I noticed the dead soybean field and was like “that’s how I feel”. Then it occurred to me what I needed to do (I believe God gives me these revelations) to improve my situation and that other people might benefit from my “ah-ha” moments. I had also been trying to figure out how to make a little fun money to help our budget and the idea of a blog had come up in my google search. I found a free course and went for it! I’ve made very little (some I can’t get to because I haven’t reached the payout minimum), but one day I know it will take off.
3. You homeschool right? So between that, writing, being a mother, and life, you must be SO busy! Do you have any time management tips you could share with us?
Yes, I homeschool only about 20 minutes of preschool level throughout the day right now. Life is very busy thanks to the auto repair shop though! I still have to take care of the kids’ basic needs, take care of the house, and I’m involved in church ministries, too. I depend very heavily on prioritized lists so I don’t forget anything. I also make sure I know what can wait, and don’t beat myself up if EVERYTHING doesn’t get done. Seriously, the only thing life and death in my world is taking care of my kids. I mean, if I screw that up they could be hurt or worse, but otherwise, there is NOTHING worth getting bent about. Just do what you can each day, prioritize, and let go of the need or desire to do it all. No one can. Oh, and I do ONE THING of self-care a day after the kids are in bed. Usually, it’s reading or coloring while I listen to my Bible App, maybe some chocolate is involved, too. Oh, and A LOT of deep breathing!!
4. Have you always enjoyed writing, or is it a newer hobby?
This is new. I remember wanting to be a writer as a teen, but at the time I was reading romance novels and tried to write that kind of thing. Problem was, I was a virgin with zero boyfriends to my credit so I had nothing to write from! HA! I gave up the idea, but I’ve always loved reading and now that I have topics I am passionate and know something about, I really enjoy writing.
5. What does the future look like for My Casual Reflections?
Wow, I’ve been thinking about this all day. My hope is to have time to really focus on it and grow it once both kids are able to keep themselves occupied. They don’t nap anymore so I lost that time, and I’m too exhausted to do all that I need to in the evenings. But I won’t give up. I want this. I’m nursing it along and in the next 3 years, I want it to be a full-fledged business. I’d be very happy with a part-time job kind of income.
6. Where does the name of your blog come from?
It all started as a place to share my random moments of reflection and learning i.e. my casual reflections!
