Yoga And Mental Health

Yoga is amazing in every way, shape, and form. Yoga benefits for moms are incredible, and there are SO many! From mental health to physical health, yoga has never-ending benefits. It is often referred to as a complementary therapy by doctors and is frequently recommended to aid with various problems/conditions, etc. There are several styles. A few of them are Vinyasa, Hatha, Iyengar Kundalini, Ashtanga, and Bikram. Each has a different purpose, rhythm, and flow, bringing various benefits to practicing. Yoga is a wonderful self-soothing technique that brings focus and awareness to the present, potentially helping lower stress and anxiety.
Practicing this gentle movement can help you gain control over your breath and bring awareness to your feelings and emotions in the moment. A lot of anxieties involve worries/uncertainties about the future, and is committed to your practice can help calm and soothe that. It can help bring you increased flexibility, balance, and improved athletic performance. Yoga can lower the amount of cortisol released, which is the stress hormone. It can also lead to better sleep and better breathing. Traditionally this type of activity is a slow-moving exercise making it gentle and low-impact on your joints and bones. It can be a great solution for many with joint and chronic pain. It’s a great way to tone and strengthen your body without needing much.
Yoga for Moms – The Equipment That You Need
A yoga mat is a good thing to invest in. It provides comfort and cushion while you practice and gives you a spatial understanding of the size of your poses. Below are a few that I like:
A block can help you get a deeper stretch in a lot more comfortable way. Bringing the ground closer to you can help you work on your flexibility very gently and slowly. My favorite is:
A strap can be very beneficial to improve your posture and lengthen and deepen the stretch.
Yoga Benefits for Moms
Yoga is a great way for moms to care for their mental and physical health. Here are some ways yoga can be beneficial for moms:
Stress relief: Yoga is an effective stress reliever and can help moms manage the stress and demands of motherhood. Practicing yoga regularly can reduce stress levels and improve mood.
Improved mental health: Yoga can positively impact mental health by reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety. It can also improve overall mental well-being and emotional regulation.
Physical health benefits: Yoga can help moms improve their physical health by increasing strength, flexibility, and balance. It can also help alleviate common physical discomforts, such as back pain, associated with motherhood.
Self-care: Moms often prioritize the needs of their families over their own, but practicing yoga can be a way to prioritize self-care. It provides a space for moms to focus on their own needs and well-being.
Mindfulness: Yoga encourages mindfulness, which can help moms be more present and engaged with their families. By practicing mindfulness, moms can cultivate greater awareness and appreciation for the present moment.
Overall, yoga can be a powerful tool for moms to improve their mental and physical health, reduce stress levels, and prioritize self-care. It can also improve their overall well-being and ability to be present with their families.
A soft, supportive cotton sports bra is a must. It can reduce pain and discomfort in your back, shoulders, and chest. Cotton is very breathable as well, so a great material for a sports bra. Do you use any of these yoga accessories? Have you ever tried them? Do you find that yoga helps with your mental health?

Yoga has been a HUGE help to me. It helps me feel more centered mentally and it also gives me a physical challenge.
I currently only have a yoga mat. I’ve been looking into getting a block and strap though.
Thank you for sharing!

I agree, yoga is amazing. I have anxiety and ADHD. It helps me to focus and relax, which are two difficult things for me. I do mostly planks, and I am not sure of what type of yoga would fit me.

I’ve tried yoga before, but I’ve never really seemed to get into it. Thinking about giving it another go, though. before I completely mark if off.

I’ve been doing a lot of yoga during quarantine and it has made a HUGELY positive impact on my mental health. I can’t do very vigorous exercise because I have chronic knee pain, so yoga is a great way for me to gently challenge my body and also center positivity in my mind. Great post!
